The Angry Internet

The internet is ugly this week.  If we kind of thought the deep divisions and angry rhetoric would die out after the election, I guess we were wrong!  It seems worse than ever out there, name calling, and accusations, and bitterness all around.  It doesn’t seem to matter whether a person was a “winner” or […]

How Silly of Me

Yesterday, I got word at the last minute that there was a free event that afternoon at the art museum. “I wish we weren’t doing chickens, today,” I mentioned to Delaney early in the morning. “Otherwise, I’d totally be there.” She looked at me with raised eyebrows. “You know you can do both, right? You’ll […]

It wasn’t THAT windy…

We were minding our own business, eating a lunch of tuna salad sandwiches and enjoying the breeze on our almost finished patio. Suddenly, we heard a noise, like a cracking or a falling. “I hope that wasn’t the beehive,” said I. “More likely it was the tent,” said he. “You’re both wrong,” said Meg, returning […]

Henry, Four Months Old

I just adore this child.  Especially those legs!  Those arms!  He is so chunky, so sturdy, and he has the most gorgeous skin.  Most of us are pretty fair, but Rosie and Henry have this gorgeous Mediterranean skin, smooth and deep, and did I mention gorgeous?  He’s round about 20 lbs already. (!) He’s very […]

Just Henry

A pair of photos for my mom.  Regretfully, I haven’t taken many photos yet.  That would be One More Thing and I’d rather take a nap. Mister Henry had his two week well baby yesterday, and I’m happy to report that his constant nursing has paid off.  Eleven pounds eight ounces!  Go, baby! He’s a […]

It’s too early, but it’s been… what?  Two weeks now?  The temperatures have been so mild, we’ve been sleeping with windows open, and nary a fire needs to be started at five o’clock in the morning.  The grass is greening, and the cows are eating it.  The daffodils are in bloom, the maples are all […]

Growing Up

When last I left you, Evie and I were suffering from separation anxiety.  You’ve probably been wondering about us… It’s going pretty well, actually.  She went through a few days of deep sadness, something we’ve never seen in this happy and most contented girl.  When we moved a new bed for the baby into her […]

Intention (Ash Wednesday)

Mary took a pound of costly ointment of pure nard and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.  But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples (he who was to betray him), said, “Why was this ointment not sold for […]

Paying Down the Mortgage

We got our annual mortgage interest statement in the mail the other day. I opened it in the driveway, on my way back from the mailbox. When I came through the door, I was waving that little piece of paper in the air. “Can you believe we paid $4000 in mortgage interest last year?” I […]

My People

The weather was so fine on Saturday, we took a family trip to the park in Louisville, so the Amtgarders could play Amtgard and the little ones could play on the playground.  It was a nice afternoon, and a much needed break to our routine.
