Whoo! Is it cold out today! It’s 14° in the sunshine, with a steady wind a’blowin, so that it feels much colder on the skin. The tank heaters are all working right this minute, thankfully, but we’ll have to refill before long, so let’s hope the hose isn’t frozen, shall we? We try to lay it out so the water flows downhill and out, but it doesn’t always work quite like we hope.
Since we can’t get our school room up to operating temperatures in this kind of cold, we packed up the children and took them to the science center in Louisville. Alas, everyone else had the same idea, and the place was a little too busy and a little too noisy and a little too crowded for our tastes. Evie wasn’t too thrilled with all the commotion, and there were too many crazy kids running willy-nilly for her to have the time and space she needed to explore well, but the other children had a nice enough time, so it was worth it. We’ll go back later in the month, when it isn’t so crowded, and let Evie have the run of the place.
I did get all the laundry done before we left this morning, so that’s a good thing, and I’m going to use one of those freezer meals to get us through the evening. When it’s this cold, it takes us extra time and energy to make sure the livestock are well-tended, and we have to juggle things a little more to make sure none of us freezes whilst doing the tending. I picked up some handy-dandy reusable hand warmers at the state fair this summer, and they’re kind of nice to have in your pockets on days like this.
In other news, I can tell I’ve hit the third trimester, because suddenly I’m not sleeping well and having the strangest dreams. I mentioned that to the children yesterday, and they, of course, promptly offered to pray for me.
So this morning, they asked, “How did you sleep?”
And I thought it over for a moment before answering, “Pretty well, actually.”
“It worked!” they grinned. I guess it did! I’m blessed to have such a diligent prayer group on my team.
Happy Monday, and stay warm, friends!
