Evelyn At Six Days

Thank you all for celebrating our baby with us!  We’re both settling in nicely at home.  In fact, neither one of us has left since we arrived after our hospital stay.  We’ll be braving a trip into town this afternoon, though, when the temperature clears 20°.  Need ice cream for our annual Fat Tuesday dinner.  🙂

This little baby is a ray of sunshine.  She is utterly content in whatever situation she finds herself, whether it be nursing at her mama’s breast, getting mauled by her adoring siblings, resting quietly in her bassinet, or riding along in her carseat.  No complaints about anything ever, except, perhaps, if that nursing should not be available the instant she desires it.

Already, she graces us with the most adorable smiles, and her favorite activity is kissing.  The more kisses she can get on those squishy cheeks, the better.  I’m happy to oblige.

She nurses like a champ, and honestly, I’ve never had a newborn nurse so thoroughly as she does.  Coincidentally, she also pees like a champ, and we go through a lot of diapers and pajamas, because the diapers leaked.  🙂  I ordered some heavier weight dipes for her, so hopefully that’ll help.  In the meanwhile, we’re double diapering, which is bulkier, but it’s working.

At night, we sleep all tucked up together in bed.  She likes the feel of my breath on her head, and I like the scent of her head when I breathe, so we’re both content.  If there is the slightest bit of space between us, she wiggles and squirms until her whole body is pressed against me.  Even though I feel like I have to be careful she gets enough air, I think it’s sweet.

We’re all completely entranced by her, head over heels in love, and it seems to us like she’s always been here, always belonged.  We couldn’t be any happier.
