We’ll Weather the Weather Whatever the Weather!

Whether the weather be fine,
Or whether the weather be not,
Whether the weather be cold,
Or whether the weather be hot,
We’ll weather the weather
Whatever the weather,
Whether we like it or not!

We are “weathering” all sorts of weather here this weak, figuratively and literally! This week and next are just jam packed with appointments and errands and meetings, and I’m looking forward to getting clear of it all and just resting. And then we have some actual weather coming in today, with the potential even for tornadoes this evening! It’s been an unusually quiet year around here, weather-wise. We usually have all sorts of extreme storms, and the children were starting to feel disappointed. Why would anyone be upset about good weather, you ask? No tornado parties! You see, it wouldn’t do to have the little ones actually afraid, so we have tornado-warning slumber parties here. Our master bedroom is located in the most basementy corner of our house, with three walls all underground and only one small window. So, while it’s not very appealing when the weather is fine, it’s perfect when it’s not, and we all pile into the bed, and around the bed, and have a grand ol’ time. We’ve been reading Ronia, the Robber’s Daughter, on the advice of Like Mother, Like Daughter, and if the bad-weather forecast holds out, we just might finish it tonight. They are all enjoying it so well, they hate for me to close the book. šŸ™‚

I hope the weather is nice tonight, wherever you are, and your children have a joyful Halloween!Ā  But if trick-or-treating is out of the question, maybe you can make it up to them with a slumber party of your own.Ā  Happy Halloween!

For the first time in two years, we have clear weather for Halloween! To make up for it, Maddie came down with a stomach bug yesterday :(. However, things are looking up for her and she thinks she might be able to trick-or-treat tonight…of course, we’ll try very hard not to spread her germs.

Have a wonderful Tornado Party and enjoy some popcorn with that book!

    Love you all <3

  2. We are due for some rain, but I think we MIGHT be able to squeak out some adventuring tonight šŸ™‚ New neighborhood and all should be fun! Some of the folks here are really into it and some are very against it. But we’ll join in and have some fun and see what happens. I LOVE your tornado party idea! What a great way to turn an otherwise scary moment into a brilliant memory! You totally rock. Seriously. I want to be like you when I grow up! ā™„

  3. The weather was miserable here, but not so bad we could have a party — just a very wet trick-or-treater! I hope you got no tornadoes!

  4. I didn’t grow up with “official” “government-determined” trick or treat times, but apparently that’s the norm now. So our trick or treat time was postponed until tonight. It’s gorgeous out today. Thankfully we were able to swap our plans and make it to the vigil for All Saints last night so we can enjoy T&T tonight. They were still disappointed we didn’t go out last night though. Hopefully our neighbors will still be willing to participate šŸ™‚

We had Halloween “postponed” in our town for two years due to dangerous weather, and I found that to be really, really weird. How do you just switch a holiday around like that? Sometimes, you just have to deal with the disappointment of something not happening the way you want it to. We still dressed up on Halloween for those two years anyway, even if we didn’t get to trick-or-treat.

    2. I agree, it felt kind of weird. Once it started to get dark, there were plenty of people out trick or treating so it felt like normal, but I think it should be left alone and not a “mandated” thing. Part of it is realizing not everything happens perfectly each year and memories are made of that stuff too. I guess this was the year Halloween happened on All Saints Day šŸ™‚

  5. We had plenty of wind here, not too much rain, one blown-over lawn chair, and a pile of leaves in front of the door. Otherwise, no other damage. The slumber party was fun, though, anyway. I think I fell asleep before anyone else. šŸ™‚

I don’t think they postponed Halloween here; we have a lot of indoor trick-or-treat venues, which I always think is weird and not fun, but lots of folks take advantage. I had to go to the courthouse to pay our vehicle registration taxes, and the place was crawling with pint-sized trick-or-treaters, and several of the large (Baptist) churches also offered indoor events.
